Eggs are on the shopping list

We are heading into one of my favorite holidays...Easter. Not so much the whole candy thing, but I love the vibrant colors, the cuddly chicks and bunnies and the famous Easter baskets full of surprises. I can remember when I was young, my mom always did the best Easter baskets. They were not gigantic or anything abnormal, just cool stuff and all my favorite candy. I remember loving to find jelly beans left in the bottom of the basket, under the Easter grass. It was like a found treasure.

Oh, and the egg hunts. Of course, back then it seems like we used real eggs more than the plastic eggs. My Aunt Kathy would always let me and my cousin hide the eggs over and over in the house. It kept us busy for hours...such fun times.

I found a wonderful dye kit for the eggs you see posted up there on Etsy. You can check the link here. I placed my order and if all goes well, we will have a few of these cool looking eggs to hide at our house. I love funky, cool, unique stuff. It just makes me feel happy!

Thank goodness for rain boots!

Our neck of the woods, down south here in Georgia, has been rather wet the past couple of days. We had a weekend full of rain showers. Roxanne was about to bust at the seems due to her high energy level. While the rain took a short break I headed outside to get a peek at the flooded yard. About that time, Roxanne came dashing out the front door in very little apparel. I had to laugh, it was quite cute. She was sporting her Dora panties and rain boots very proudly. She called out to me, "Mom, can I come out and play too?" How do you say no when your rolling with laughter. "Sure", I replied..."let me get my camera!" I could tell this was going to be a great photo opp. Enjoy the "mud diva"!

Craft corner re-do....a sneak peek!

My button stash...all nice and neat

My new cutting table

I took some time to take a few quick pictures of some of my favorite areas in my craft corner. I have been working the past week or so on small sewing projects and I am totally in love with my new space. It's my happy place! Here are a few pictures of some of my happy spots-LOL

>Thread, arranged like a rainbow of colors

Ribbon stash

My "holy" chair:)
Craft areas are sacred ya know - (giggle)

Thank you Tommy for helping me with my craft space makeover!

project #104

I think we have done like 103 projects to our home as of today. We have redone the roof, the carpet the heat and air units, the appliances, the paint, the hard woods, the bathroom, the ceiling....should I go on? Well, when I did the tiny bit of a redo to my craft space, the project monster started to breed and now we have tiny projects (kind of tiny) starting to flare up all around the house. We have decided to paint the entire living room, trim and all. When we were painting some sample colors on the wall, next to the window trim, we decided new windows would probably be a good idea. So, my house is kind of a wreck right now. There are about three walls with diff. color paint on them and all of my windows are now just hanging there, no trim, ready to be taken out. So, we are in the midst of a project nightmare! However, due to having done remodeling before, we are kind of use to making a mess of things - LOL Wish us luck, we are hoping to have all of the new windows installed and the first coat of primer on the walls by Sunday...here we go!

What's in the fridge?

If you are like me, I have a bunch of nothing..so it seems. My pantry is full and my fridge is stocked but I find myself saying "There's nothing to eat", meaning what can I make with what I have on hand. So many times I go to the grocery store and I come home without items for a complete meal. I guess that's what shopping with toddlers will do to you-LOL. My mom came to my rescue with a wonderful mommy friendly site. It's called Cooking By Numbers. I have visited this site numerous times since I was first introduced. It has a checklist of items that you might have on hand to make into meals. I completed my checklist and it looks like we will be having apricot chicken tonight, rice and veggies according to the items I have on hand!

My weekend of sewing

Sorry I am a little behind on posting about my weekend of sewing. It was more like a weekend of shopping...LOL Oh, I am not complaining b/c it was ll for me! That picture of ugly slippers that you see up there was my inspiration. I love my Very Bradley slippers...can't ya tell? I have wore them to shreds!

To start things off, I grabbed my weekend sewing book and headed for the lawn chair in the back yard. What could be more inspiring than being outside, in the sunshine, reading an inspirational book about sewing? I came up with my attack plan for my weekend projects. I was inspired to make myself a new pair a slippers. "That would be fun, useful and I need a new pair desperately", I thought to myself.

I came in and started working on picking my fabric selection, gathering materials and cutting the pattern. It was then that I realized my workspace was way less than adequate to endure a weekend of sewing. So, I put my pen to the paper and started thinking of items that I needed to make my space more functional.

I gathered the family and off we went. It was a long day of shopping but a very successful shopping trip. I know have more of a studio look for my sewing area, more room, more organization and a more functional work space.

So, my sewing space got a makeover and my feet got a makeover as well...it all went from drab to fab! I also made Roxanne a Kimono style dress. Everything is finished except for the sleeve edge/cuff. I am not sure if I like the length, I may cut if off a little shorter. I will post pictures of the finished project this week. I am just itching to see the end result!

(I'll post pictures of the sewing space in a later post...hang tight!)

Cinderella

Have you ever felt like Cinderella? Today was my day to be somewhat of a fairytale character. As I did laundry, made beds, cooked meals, cleaned up messes and was at every beck and call of my little ones. I felt somewhat of the ache that poor Cinderella felt. I have been a single mom again this week and its been tough. I am now waiting for my price charming to come home. Oh, the joy Cinderella felt when she was with her prince. Love is grand and it can make cleaning the dirtiest of dishes seem worth while, when you know you are giving of your time to a family you love so deeply.

As in the story of the fair Cinderella, she also had a love for sewing. Her family of mice saved the day by sewing her a gown to wear to the royal ball. So, as I took a little break for myself while running errands today, I picked up a little something that fit my fancy. It's that relaxing little book you see up there. Now, that's something that Cinderella would have loved as well. A weekend of sewing. Some read, some play golf, some watch movies, some bake...I sew, and love it!

scrambled thoughts

Is it Friday yet? I tell ya what, it has been a crazy week and there is more craziness to come. We started the week out with a bang...NOT! We got word that Roxanne's teacher was leaving and would be replaced. That threw her for a loop. She could not understand the fact that her teacher would not be coming back. Her new teacher is starting tomorrow. I am sure Roxanne will fill me in with all the details - LOL

Bryar has started going through the terrible stage of separation anxiety. She does not want me to leave the room she is in. If she decides to leave the room I am in, she insist that I go with her saying "moan"...translated, "come on". When we begin our bedtime routine and I ask her if she is ready to go nite-nite, she says no and starts to cling to me. When she is laid down she cries this terrible little heart ripping cry. I have tried to sooth her with a sippy cup of water and soft cuddly toys in her crib. She cries it out for about 5 minutes or so and then drifts off to sleep. She only does this at night. She acts perfectly fine during her nap time. I can remember Roxanne going through this stage as well. Somehow, I forgot how it rips your heart out...ouch!

It has been raining since...forever. No, not really, just since Saturday. We have been stuck inside and the girls are getting a bit of cabin fever. Roxanne and I decided to get out a do it yourself book project that I had stuffed in the craft closet. We made silly objects with pre-cut foam pieces and glued them to pre-cut paper sheets. When we were finished decorating the paper, we placed each one inside the book. It was a great way to pass the time and we both had a great time creating the book together.

I hope that all of you have a blessed Wednesday....Friday's almost here!

Just because she's mine

This post is just for me. You are welcome to read it but I am sure you will not get the same warm and fuzzy. Why?...because she's mine. A mothers love is simply unexplainable, unshakable and unending. I love both of my girls more than I could ever express in words. Roxanne is growing so fast and has become much more independent. I see that change progressing in Bryar as well. Somehow, I would like to just savor the last few months of babyhood. I was able to capture Bryar being just that, a baby. Curious, carefree and content with the little things. Yes, this broken book kept her busy for over half an hour. It's a picture book with kitty cats. She kisses the pages and calls them "key-keys" interpreted...kitty-kitty's. Oh, what's not to love about this sweet baby. I am so glad she IS mine!

Puppy love

For some reason I have been plagued with this terrible late night insomnia. I am usually in bed way before the midnight hour. Here lately, I have not been able to rest so I have been surfing Etsy for some unusual finds. This is one of my favorites. I am an animal lover, proud owner of one dog (Sammie girl), one cat (Quinky) and a pond full of fish. I found this cute little doggy clutch and I had to share it with you all. You can find it here. It is so expressive, unique and just plain cute. But watch out, that little pup packs a bite...in the wallet!

Why do I love being a mommy?

....because you get things like this almost everyday! This cute little drawing by Roxanne just made my day. She gathered up a pad of scrap paper, stamps and some markers and went to town. She was laying on the floor by the back door just coloring and singing silly made up songs to pass the time. She looked up at me at said "Mommy, how do you spell your name?" I spelled it slowly, one letter at a time, repeating a few " H E A T H E R", I replied. It wasn't long after that, she handed me this wonderful page, splashing with color, and my name written on top.
Ahhhh, life as a mommy could not have been any better at that moment :)
Thank you Roxanne...blue tiara's are my favorite (wink)!

(Sorry, my scanner cropped the image a little and cut off the R. Shucks, it was such a cute R.)

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

I have been holding down the fort solo for the past couple of days. I am totally convinced that I never want to be a single mom. Kudos to all the women out there who are single moms, I don't know how you do it. Tommy has been away since the wee hours of Monday morn. (4:30 am). Shew, talk about being tired at the end of the day. For that matter...all day! Those little munchkins of mine have some source of endless energy. With that said, it's been a doozie of a day. Tommy is due in sometime tonight. Oh, I will be sooooo glad to see him!

We miss you Daddy!!!!!!

Sunshine bliss!

The Roe clan can use just about anything for some fun, even a tree dolly!
I took a quick shot at Roxanne with her sweet little expression relaxing by the pond.

Bryar is getting so big. I love her chunky arms in this picture. It's about the only chunky part of her body. She's gonna take after mommy I guess :)

Doesn't this look like fun! Man, to be a little again...KIDS rock!

Oh, the warmth of the sunshine...total bliss! Georgia has warmed up over the past couple of days with mid day temps in the 70's. It is so nice to see the trees budding, birds singing and my adopted pack of deer roaming the property (yes, we feed them). Spring is so fresh and vibrant. I love the burst of colors from the tulips, the splashing of water with spring showers and the evening sun.....welcome spring, glad you're here!

This weekend our family was busy about the yard, cleaning and sprucing things up a bit. We were weeding beds, laying pine straw, pulling out old branches and maybe even preparing for a sun room :) We had fun just enjoying each others company and being able to get some fresh air!

A little mixed up!

Do you Wordle? I do, and it's easy. Thanks Kris for sharing a little fun! Check out this website where you can create custom projects using your own words, like the one you see up there (it's also on my sidebar). It's one I created using a random design of words found in my blog post...whatcha think?

Mompreneurs...sick, sassy & snow

Sorry for the delay in posting about the Mompreneurs first meeting. We've had some sickness, snow and a little sassy four year old that we have been dealing with over the past couple of days. First off, the meeting...let me just say "WOW!" The meeting was very informal, more of a relaxed atmosphere and simply just getting to know each other. I enjoyed hearing the other ladies tell about there businesses and goals that they are setting. We enjoyed some refreshments, had a few door prizes and soaked up some much needed mommy to mommy talk.
Lisa was so kind to snap a few photos of the session. **Hey Lisa, thanks for the wonderful shot of me talking with my hands...it's a great picture (NOT!)** I"ll make sure to get a picture of Lisa talking with her hands at the next meeting - LOL!

This past Saturday my little Bryar got sick just out of the blue. We were in the car doing a few weekend errands and suddenly Bryar gets yucky sick in the car. "WHAT!" I could not believe it. We pulled over, changed her and decided maybe it was just something she ate. Thirty minutes later...boom, again! Ok, so maybe she is like really sick, "let's head back". Well, by this time, it's time for lunch. We decide a drive-thru was best. Bryar is just begging to eat so I give in and let her eat...boom, round three! "You've gotta be kidding me!" Needless to say, our car had to be taken to the nearest scrub-n-bubbles shop to be cleaned. The yucky sick stopped but we have been changing yucky diapers nearly every hour since then. Needless to say, Bryar has an appointment with the doctor at 10:00 am Wednesday, wish us luck!

OK, now for Miss Sassy. Shew, talk about feeling like the disfunctional mom...I'm it! Roxanne is going through the terrible two's a little late (like two years late). She's testing the waters to say the least. Don't get me wrong, she a sweet kid, lovable and cute as a stinkin' button. She's just got this thing with not listening. It's like she only hears what she wants to hear. Anybody been there? Oh, and her hands, she can't keep them off of people. She wants to grab and pull on other kids, laughing the entire time. She's not trying to be mean, she just wants to hang on them. Pray that this stage will pass, quickly!

The snow...well, you can read about it a little further down. It was the highlight of the weekend!

OK, I think I have said enough. Most of you probable did not even make it this far down in the post. Sorry, I know I can be a little boring. Better luck with my next post. Til then...hugs from a mommy!
